Our Work
Building Resilient Communities is proud to be a part of a network of organizations ensuring that communities are ready in the event of a crisis. We currently provide disaster preparedness tools, resources, and updates on emergency situations to hundreds of faith, community, and business leaders. When fires start, floods occur, the earth shakes, pandemics strike, or communities experience violence, we provide thousands of people with the information they need to stay safe.
In addition to training, we provide communities with the supplies they need to weather tough times. Building Resilient Communities has delivered thousands of face masks, face shields, hand sanitizers, and gloves to communities in need of personal protection equipment as they face COVID-19. We also partner with community organizations annually to provide students with emergency flashlights, backpacks, and school supplies. While disaster preparedness is our priority, we strive to meet the needs of the communities we serve in whatever ways we can.

Stay Safe out there. The forecast for the next week shows a chance of rain most days with snow levels at 6,000 to 7,500 feet. County public works crews have been clearing drainages to prevent flooding. Rather than waiting for gauges to detect problems, the county sent out workers to observe the drainages to speed up any necessary responses, Sherwin said. There were rockslides on highways 18 and 330, but they did not result in long-term closures, Sherwin said. With the number of problems in the mountain communities decreasing, officials are now discussing disbanding the unified command and returning responsibility for incidents to the leadership of the individual agencies such as the San Bernardino County Fire Department, the California Highway Patrol, and Caltrans, Sherwin said. ...
